One of the most popular activities on Harbour Island is fishing. You’ve got two options here, deep sea fishing, and bonefishing.
Deep Sea Fishing Deep sea fishing is what many people are familiar with. This involves heading out on a boat to troll the waters off the island for the fish that swim in the waters below. Tuna, wahoo and marlin are the most commonly caught, but mahi mahi, and sailfish are also found in these waters. The fishing in this area is so good, in fact, that it’s been the home for the Bahamas Billfish Tournament for over 12 years.
There are many good spots around the island, where the sea floor drops off into deeper water and the sport fish like to come to feed. Hook up with a local charter operation and you’ll be sure to get into the heart of the action.
Bonefishing The shallow flats surrounding Harbour Island are known for their excellent bonefishing opportunities. This is considered one of the sportiest fishes in the world, and anglers travel from all over to test their abilities against this elusive creature. If you can get them to take your fly, then hold on, because the fun has just started with this incredibly agile and quick fish.
